Reservations via Alberta Parks: 1-877-537-2757

A visit to this section of Kananaskis Country usually includes a road trip through some of Alberta's most scenic landscape. Highway #40 through the Highwood area offers fabulous mountain vistas and numerous picnic sites and trails to explore.

At the junction of Highways #40 and #541 , you must make the decision to head east to the interesting town of Longview or continue south on gravel road #940 into the Cataract Creek area. Cataract Creek offers great fishing, camping and trails for equestrian or hiking experiences.

Visitors should be aware that the Highwood Pass section of Highway 40 is closed annually from December 1st to June 15th.

ADVISORY - ETHERINGTON CREEK EQUESTRIAN CAMPGROUND will be undergoing refurbishment in spring/summer 2024 and will be closed during construction.  Check AlbertaParks.ca for updates as the opening date for this campground in 2024 is still to be announced.  Etherington Creek campground (non-equestrian), group camping area, and day use area are not affected and will be open for their regular operating seasons.
